Services
-
Medium to long term therapy, usually weekly but sometimes fortnightly or twice weekly. Using a psychodynamic approach that brings to light the unconscious thoughts, feelings and behaviours underlying symptoms. This facilitates working through of troubles, conflicts and traumas.
-
Working holistically, helping regain function and effectiveness as per your goals. Integrating medications with support and counselling.
-
Assessments are typically done over 2-4 sessions, so they are in-depth, thorough, and build a nuanced picture of the context for your condition and how it can be managed. Ongoing care can be provided by myself, or other suitable practitioners such as your GP or psychologist.
About Ben
I'm a General Adult Psychiatrist with a passion for integrating psychological with biological, social, and cultural factors into therapy. My approach is based on deep understanding starting from infancy, and it lends itself to those who haven't found success with structured therapies or have struggled with medications that have not been effective.
I specialise in Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, offering medium to long-term therapy for sustained improvements in mood, relationships, and sense of self. Medication may be recommended when appropriate; always in a collaborative, evidence-based manner.
I have extensive experience in treating various conditions, including Depression, Anxiety, Complex Trauma, Bipolar Disorder, Personality Disorders, Psychotic disorders, and recurring relational conflict. I also work at The Royal Melbourne Hospital as a Consultant Psychiatrist in the community team.
In addition to therapy, I offer comprehensive management plans and follow-up services as needed. My practice is grounded in empathy, understanding, and a commitment to fostering long-term change.
